![]() ![]() I mean they already have with the whole second screen thing, so why not that as well?Į-mail your comments to: backlog at last Nintendo have got an awful lot wrong this gen but that and Miiverse are actually really cool and I’d like to see the others rip them off (if you know what I mean). E3 is fine, but that’s only once a year so I agree with the guy who said about more Nintendo Direct style shows but for all the consoles. It was so cheap, the presenters were so aggressively uninterested! It was like Wayne’s Wayne but for real and ruining what could have been a really important event for gaming.Īll I can say is I don’t blame Bethesda for not unveiling Fallout 3 there, but I do agree we need some semi-standardised way to announce new games. Oh man, I just watched some clips of VGX and literally couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Remember when games were coloured like the real world? When video games could be about one of more than two subjects? When they were about imagining what didn’t exist rather than wasting millions on recreating something that already does? I mean each to their own but there needs to be balance and if the next gen brings that then I’m all in, no matter what else goes wrong. I’ve seen enough grim and gritty games and movies to last a lifetime and I’d be very happy to go back to optimistic and realistic. I don’t know if it’s a trend or just a coincidence but I am sick and tired of all these childish shooters pandering to a 14-year-old’s idea of what being mature is about. With all the talk of No Man’s Sky at the moment and things like Star Citzen getting a gazillion dollars on Kickstarter dare I dream to think that sci-fi is coming back to gaming and we can finally stop shooting terrorists all the time? Even the big name retail games so far are mostly sci-fi like Titanfall and Destiny. The only problem is I’m not a big fan of Borderlands or Gearbox (especially after the Aliens: Colonial Marines debacle). It could really help to give a background to blank slate characters like Lara Croft, who despite being really famous are basically blank slates. But Telltale coming in and doing their thing with a game universe that is a million miles way from what they usually do is a really neat idea. The problem is of course the developer doesn’t usually know how to make any other kinds of games, which is fair enough, and is usually too proud to admit it. ![]() RTSP (probably) from a phone over WiFi to a browser source in OBS, for a fixed on-stage shot.NDI overlay from Proclaim to OBS for lower-thirds, different from the dedicated audience display, which OBS also has a hardware capture of.We have a very similar system to yours, in the number of cameras and types of destinations, but all except 2 of our video connections are dedicated to just that. Once you’re able to move all the cards from the tableau and the stockpile, you’ve won!įor more information, check out our guide on how to play solitaire. Once you’re able to move all the cards from the tableau and the stockpile, you’ve won!.Lastly, if you find that a tableau column is empty, you can move a King to that pile to help build the tableau and eventually move the cards to the correct foundation pile.Doing this will reveal the next face-down card in the column if there are any cards left. For example, if the last card in a tableau column is the 8 of Diamonds, and there is a 7 of Diamonds in the foundation pile for Diamonds, you can then move the 8 of Diamonds there. As cards are revealed while you are “building” the tableau, you can move them into the foundation, helping you win the game. The goal of moving cards in the tableau is to reveal additional cards. For instance, if the last column has a 7 of Clubs, 6 of Hearts, and 5 of Spades turned over in that order, that group of cards can be moved beneath an 8 of Diamonds and Hearts in another column. Groups of turned-up cards can also be moved to on the tableau. This means if there is a face down-card remaining after the 3 of Clubs is moved, it should be turned up, and it becomes another card you can build with. Remember that in each of the tableau columns, the last card should always be flipped face-up. This is called “building.” For example, if the third column has a 3 of Clubs, it can be moved to another column beneath a card that is either a 4 of Hearts or 4 of Diamonds. Similarly, cards in the tableau can be moved around to other columns where there is a card of the opposite color and an incrementally higher number.Either a 7 of Spades or Clubs from the stock pile can be placed on top of it. For example, let’s say there is an 8 of Hearts in the third column of the tableau. Stock pile cards can be placed below a card in the tableau if that card is of the opposite color and a number one rank higher.Specifically, the first column has 1 card, the second column has 2 cards and so on until the seventh column, which has 7 cards. The tableau is the group of cards with the seven columns, with the last card of each column turned facing up, and with each column having an additional card. ![]()
![]() The inaccuracies are real, but I don’t think they detracted from the game, and possibly not from the relatively minimal educational content. ![]() I agree that the game was great for teaching basic trading economics and some maritime history. It would be really cool to update it to fit with the improved PC abilities in the last 20 years. It’s impressive how much the original developers got into a very small program (by today’s gaming standards). This was (and is) a really excellent game. Here’s the intro to the game, compliments of YouTube. You definitely would have had contact with the navy, and not always a positive contact.) The ships you fight are always other merchant vessels or pirates.īut what you do learn is where commodities were cheapest (and most expensive), the historical names of a large number of ports, and how political alliances and territories changed throughout the course of the 17th and 18th centuries. (Especially if you’re British, this is a fiction. One major inaccuracy is that as a merchant vessel captain, you never have any contact with the navy of any nation, yours or another. There are certainly historical inaccuracies, and you definitely don’t learn anything about how to actually handle a ship. You get to pick a nationality from several seafaring European nations: England, France, Holland, Spain, or Portugal. It starts in 1650 you’ll die before the American colonies get their independence. It’s a game in which you, the captain of a trading vessel, trade commodities across the known world, fight enemy nations and pirate ships, collect gold, and work toward promotion within the guild. High Seas Trader came out in the mid-1990s, I think. So I’ve always been a little skeptical of the history people learn through computer games. But this past week as I sat in America and the Sea, I realized that much of the subject we were discussing–early exploration on the oceans–I had learned through a game. But they don’t really teach an accurate view of how world politics and wars work. Don’t get me wrong–a game that involved long drawn-out diplomatic negotiations wouldn’t be that fun. Historical video games on a larger scale, such as Age of Empires or Rise of Nations, though excellent fun, also teach a skewed view of history, most especially that war is always the way alliances and enmities are created. But in real life, pioneers usually had other resources besides what was in their own wagons. There’s no mention of the fact that you may be traveling in a wagon train with, say, a doctor, even if you’re not one yourself. Thus, old games like Oregon Trail, though highly enjoyable for indoor recess, teach that when you’re faced with dysentery, for instance, your only two options are to (a) rest or (b) keep going. History is also more complicated than one person’s ability to control it. Perhaps it’s the old fogey in me that wants to say, “If it’s not hard work, it’s not learning!” Using video or computer games as pedagogical tools has always been a concept that I’ve harbored deep skepticism about. ![]() EVH® and D-Tuna® are registered trademarks of E.L.V.H.ESP® is a registered trademark of ESP Company, Limited.Electroswitch® is a registered trademark of Electroswitch Corporation.D'Angelico® Deluxe Atlantic®, Deluxe Bedford®, Deluxe Brighton®, Deluxe Ludlow®, Premier Bedford®, Premier Brighton®, Premier Ludlow® is a registered trademark of D&squo Angelico Guitars Of America.CTS® is a registered trademark of CTS Corporation. ![]()
